Paul Daniels
The legend of British television magic
Paul Daniels (1938-2016) was for decades the face of magic in the United Kingdom. Born in Middlesbrough, he worked his way up from working men's clubs to the BBC, where "The Paul Daniels Magic Show" ran for fifteen years and became a Saturday night institution, watched by millions of families and exported to dozens of countries. With his wife and assistant Debbie McGee at his side, he made magic a national habit.
Behind the jokes and the famous catchphrase, "You'll like this... not a lot, but you'll like it", there was one of the sharpest technicians and quickest minds magic has ever had. Fellow professionals admired the precision of his sleight of hand, his mastery of comedy timing and his encyclopedic knowledge of the art; international organisations honoured him with their highest awards. He remained a tireless performer and ambassador of magic until the very end.
Masters of Magic honoured him with the Golden Grolla in 2014, in Saint-Vincent, welcoming to the ceremony a man who had shaped the childhood of every British magician alive.
Honoured by Masters of Magic among the legends who have shaped the history of magic.
