FISM Italy 2015

Juliana Chen was the first woman, and the first magician of Chinese heritage, to win the FISM World Championship of Magic, in Dresden in 1997: the First Lady of Magic. Born in Hunan Province, she was selected as a child for the Hunan Academy for the Performing Arts, training first in ballet, then in acrobatics and juggling; as a teenager she toured internationally with the famous Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe. After two injuries to the same leg, she saw Japanese magician Shimada on television and began practising in secret with cards and ping-pong balls; in 1986 she won the All-China Best Magician competition.

After moving to Vancouver in 1988, in 1992 she was named Stage Magician of the Year at the International Brotherhood of Magicians convention in Salt Lake City, then won numerous competitions in Europe on her way to the world title. She appeared on NBC's "The World's Greatest Magic IV" and ABC's "Champions of Magic", and played the London Palladium, the Princess Grace Theatre in Monte Carlo, Caesars Palace, the Tigerpalast and the Berlin Wintergarten. Artistic director of the Shanghai International Magic Festival since 1999, she opened the doors to exchanges between Chinese and Western magicians.

She was our guest at the FISM World Championship of Magic in Rimini 2015.
