Jonathan Goodwin was born in 1980 in Pembrokeshire, South West Wales, and spent his childhood among cliffs, mountains and dives into the ocean. At seven he read a book about Harry Houdini and decided to become an escape artist: with no one to learn from, he taught himself the mechanics of locks and the best ropes to escape from. Growing up, he realised Houdini was a magician whose feats were often cleverly disguised tricks, and for a while he gave up the dream.

At eighteen he moved to London, earned a degree in Drama and Theatre at Middlesex University and went to work in television as a producer. A special about an escape artist rekindled his passion: he began devising and filming his own escapes, which quickly became popular online and then on British television, from "Dirty Tricks" and "Deathwish Live" to "Balls of Steel", "Indestructibles" and "One Way Out" for Discovery Channel. He does everything for real: he has been hanged, buried alive and locked in a box with 200,000 bees.

He brought his daring feats to the Masters of Magic Convention stage at the 2010 edition.
