Rudy Coby
On our stage at:
2016
Rudy Coby, also known as Labman, is an American comedy magician and a member of the Magic Castle. His performances are eclectic, original and packed with comedy, with stage magic at their heart. His alter ego Labman is a scientist who performs amazing deeds for the fictional LabCo, slogan Smarter Than You: a character born in a comic book Coby drew as a child.
In the 1990s his two American TV specials, in 1995 and 1996, made him a cult figure, with robotic assistants, supervillains defeated through magic tricks and the famous Hypnotron 2000, an optical illusion designed by Jerry Andrus. In the mid-decade he and his troupe played the Gem Theatre in Detroit for thirteen weeks. His legendary four legs act, seen on Patrick Sébastien's television show, is said to have inspired the multi-legged hero of the film Delicatessen. Since 2003 he has worked with Marilyn Manson, designing sets and props for his stage shows.
