Marco Tempest

The techno-illusionist

Swiss-born, New York-based Marco Tempest pioneered the fusion of magic and technology, inventing for himself a definition that did not exist before: techno-illusionist. In his hands augmented reality, projection mapping, drones, robots and code become instruments of illusion, and the boundary between what the machine does and what the magician does dissolves completely.

His multimedia performances and his TED talks, watched by millions of people, opened a new chapter in what a magician can be: not the enemy of technology but its poet, someone who uses the language of innovation to tell stories about deception, imagination and the future. He has collaborated with research laboratories and technology companies, bringing the magician's perspective into places where new machines are actually being invented.

Masters of Magic honoured him with the Golden Grolla in 2019, recognising the artist who showed that the oldest art of wonder and the newest technologies speak, in the end, the same language.
