The professor of the psychology of magic

Richard Wiseman began his career as a professional magician and member of the Magic Circle, then turned the question every magician lives with, why do people believe what they believe, into a scientific career. Today he holds the chair of the Public Understanding of Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire and is one of the best-known psychologists in the world, with research spanning luck, deception, illusion, sleep and the paranormal.

His books, from "The Luck Factor" to "Quirkology" and "59 Seconds", have sold millions of copies in dozens of languages, and his online experiments and videos, including some of the most famous illusions of attention ever filmed, have made rigorous science feel like a magic show. Magicians love him because he explains why their art works; scientists love him because he makes their work astonishing.

Masters of Magic honoured him with the Golden Grolla in 2022, in Saint-Vincent, celebrating the man who built a bridge between the laboratory and the stage and invited everyone to cross it.
